The rise of Yashashvi Jaiswal - From selling Pani Puri to scoring a 100 in the IPL

Yashashvi Jaiswal sold Pani Puri to manage his expenses in Mumbai

In India, there are many cricketers who come from small towns and create big impacts at the biggest leval. Cricket is considered a religion in India and hence right from the childhood, one always holds a bat and aspires to be a cricketer or to play some competitive cricket.

One such name is Yashashvi Jaiswal who was born in UP's small town Suriyawan on 28 December 2001. Right from the very young age he carried the dream of becoming a cricketer. His father owned a small hardware shop and his mother was a housewife. Jaiswal moved to Dadar, Mumbai to get cricket practice at Azad Maidan. However, the ground was too far from Dadar and hence he had to relocate himself to Kalbadevi and worked in a dairy shop as a part-time. However, in pursuit of his dream, Jaiswal could not get much time to devote in the dairy shop and he was ejected by the owner as he was not doing much significant work.

To make ends meet, he had no choice and he stayed in a tent near the ground with groundsmen and sold Pani Puri to manage his expenses in Mumbai. Jaiswal stayed there for 3 years and after that in 2013 he was spotted by Jwala Singh who provided him a place to stay and helped him to get better cricket practice at his cricket academy in Santacruz.

Yashashvi Jaiswal scored a 100 in U-19 world cup 2020 Semi final against Pakistan

His time came in Dec 2019 when he was added into India's U-19 squad for U-19 world cup in South Africa. He emerged the highest scorer of the tournament and won the "player of the tournament" award. Jaiswal scored a century against Pakistan in semi final.

Straightaway after his U-19 heroics he was spotted by Rajasthan franchise at the 2020 IPL auction and RR roped him in their squad. He had many good performances up till now in last 3 seasons however his best was yet to come. Jaiswal scored a breathtaking 124 off 62 balls against Mumbai Indians on 30th April 2023. hitting 16 fours and 8 sixes. 90% of his runs came in boundaries. So once again this young man has reminded the world that he is not gonna hang around a little and walk away silently. He is here to roar and we are hoping to see Jaiswal soon in Indian blue jersey.

Regards
Rahul
